2049 Meetinghouse Way, West Barnstable, MA 02668
On May 17, 1953, the West Parish of Barnstable (dating from September 3, 1639, whose corporate status was recognized in 1786 and again in 1834 by the General Court of Massachusetts)
made this Covenant with the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc.:
"Whereas, the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc. was organized for the purpose of restoring the old Meetinghouse of the West Parish of Barnstable to its original appearance, and
"Whereas, the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc. is preparing to begin restoration; Now, therefore, it is hereby
"Voted by the members eligible to vote on such matters that the West Parish of Barnstable covenants with the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc.:
"1. That it will at no time undertake structural alterations affecting the appearance of the restored Meetinghouse without the duly authorized written consent of the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc., and
"2. That it will not undertake to dispose of or convey the Meetinghouse property, land and building save to the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc., and
"3. That in the event the Parish ceases to be an active corporation, prior to its actual dissolution, it will convey title of the Meetinghouse property, land and building to the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc.
"It is the sense of the Covenant that, insofar as the Meetinghouse property, land and buildings are concerned, the West Parish Memorial Foundation, Inc. is to have all the priviledges and protection that rights of ownership would entitle it short of holding actual, legal title.
"It is also the sense of this Covenant, anything to the contrary notwithstanding that except for the foregoing provisions, the West Parish of Barnstable shall continue to enjoy full rights and priviledges of use and legal ownership heretofore."
